Client’s Graphic of the Month – December 2020

How the Germans Celebrate Christmas

Author: Yannic Stock
Date: Dec 16, 2020

Everything is different this year – including Christmas. As this graphic for our customer Sparkassen Versicherung shows, there’s one thing the Germans will miss more than anything: Christmas markets and mulled wine! This is a combination that 66% of Germans cannot go without – under normal circumstances.

To put it more spectacularly: 65 million liters of mulled wine are sold in Germany every year! Enough to fill 17 Olympic-sized swimming pools! It’s fair to say the Germans enjoy Christmas time, with 78% saying they pay no attention to calorie intake over the holidays. No wonder then that the average German gains 0.8 kilos in weight during the festive period!

This humorous and colorful infographic also presents facts and figures about present-giving – including the often quite different traditions across Germany’s Federal States.
