In the Bertelsmann Stiftung study, “Who wins? Who loses? The development of the German labour market from the early years of the federal republic to today”, a team from the Freie Universität Berlin investigates how the labour market situation has changed for women. The infographic shows that women have made ground in significant areas – for example, the share of women with a university degree has increased. However, the share of women who undertake entry- or intermediate-level work despite having a university degree has also risen. The study also notes that most women with a university degree are overqualified. This is represented in the graphic by a graduate sharpening pencils. While women are making ground in the labour market, they are still not catching up.
